Does that 200lbs less include all the components or is that a bare engine weight?

I’m ballparking based on a fully-dressed N55 weighing 427 lbs. Spent a half an hour searching for an official weight figure for the B58, to no avail.

Rover V8s are an aluminum closed deck design, and therefore must be... pfff. PFF. HAHAHAHA

It would be interesting to know what both engines weigh fully dressed.

So what you’re saying is that we need to turbocharge one, and swap it into a Supra? Could run on fanboi tears alone!

I mean, it’s not a good idea, but it’s a great idea.

Also, it’s not like they can just start building new 2Js. It’s been out of production for well over a decade (the last 1Js were made in 2006), and the chances of the tooling just sitting around somewhere in Toyota City are effectively zero.

but a complete 2jz-gte longblock only weighs in the neighborhood of 500lbs. Some say as much as 650 but thats always with the v160 transmission attached (which weighs about 160 lbs). I think the main reason for the strength isn’t the deck, per-se, its the fact that its a cast iron block AND closed deck.

I’ m not saying your 2JZ weights are wrong, but your 2JZ weights are wrong. The bigger and heavier 1FZ-FE longblock only weighs 584 lbs. Most put the 2jz-gte longblock in the 490-500 lb range.

They’ll remind you that it’s 200 lbs heavier because iron block master race.

I’ve never fully understood the whole long-block vs. short-block terminology, or what it entails as far as differences from a full engine and accessories/other systems. I mean, this list

http://www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/1306-honda-engine-drivetrain-weights/

of Honda engines has stuff (seems like everyt hing included, with transmissions) weighing in at 415 or so for the all-aluminum K-series engines and 485 for the H22, Honda’s heaviest iron block four-cylinder on the list . A 550 lb. J-series V6 doesn’t seem like a big discrepancy in weight vs. a 2JZ, but I’m sure the chasm between weights of those two is almost as big as comparing those two engines by power potential, right?

Am I just wholly mis-estimating how much impact moving from iron to aluminum blocks, two fewer cylinders (except for the J engines) , and a complete absence of turbo and intercooling hardware would have on the weight of these examples of Honda engines versus Toyota’s famously overbuilt monster? Thoughts ?
